Yard Projects

Andy and I have been pretty busy with various projects around the house. Burning, chopping, digging, and sanding have been the bulk of our Saturdays around here. Living on acre of land means EVERYONE helps. 

In December of last year, we got a letter from our home owners insurance that we needed to take down our shed within 30 days. So Andy spent all this free time tear down this shed. It was a 12x12, pretty big, so it took awhile to take down. So much wood was left. We spent a good month where Andy chopped it up or used his power saw and I'd burn it. We had a good size pile of wood that we could not burn to it having paint and we brought it to the dump.With is all gone, we leveled out the ground that it was on, took out the rocks and planted grass. 

Like I said, when you live on a acre, we all help. Andy allowed Brian to use the hammer to take up some nails from the shed and he did a good job! It was such a big help.

This was a VERY common occurance around the yard. 

We made many trips to home depot or lowes. We got hundreds of pounds of pea gravel to use for out fire pit we built.

Andy and I both wanted a place where we could place out grill in the yard. We didn't like the way these rocks looked so we decided to take them out and make a patio. Andy was the brains behind this idea and came up with a new design. I was impressed that he used all our existing rocks.

 We took out all the rocks, layed out the designed we wanted, put down weed block, poured in some sand,layed down the rocks and poured pea gravel over the rocks. When we where finshed we realized how uneven it looked. We where both pretty unhappy with it. So we went back to the beginning. We took out all the rocks, got a ton more sand, got a level to level and even each rock out so everything looked balanced. It took MANY hours and Andy laying on the ground making sure each rock was even with the next. We took out the pea gravel and picked up 40 lbs of Polymeric sand and Andy was able to spread that evenly between the cracks. You wet it afterwards and it give a dry cement look when it is all dry.
